Mgr. Jesmond Manicaro was born in Paola on 27th August 1964. He studied at the University of Malta, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology. He continued his studies at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of St Anselmo in Rome, where he earned a Licentiate and Doctorate in Liturgy. He taught liturgy at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta between 2009 and 2021.
Mgr Manicaro was ordained priest on 5th July 1991, and has served in the parishes of Ħaż‑Żebbuġ, Santa Luċija and Cospicua. He currently holds pastoral responsibilities as rector of the Church of All Souls (Tal‑Erwieħ) in Ħal Tarxien. In 2023 he was appointed Monsignor Coadjutor of the Metropolitan Chapter.
Between the year 2000 and 2023 he served as the Archbishop’s delegate for the Liturgy and then on 11 July 2023 he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for the Liturgy.
Rev. Michael Buġeja, from Marsaxlokk, was ordained a priest in 1993, by the Archbishop of Malta Mons Đużeppi Mercieca and was assigned as deputy priest in the Parish of Żebbuġ. In 1997 he was sent to continue the pastoral work in the parish of Żejtun and in the Parish of San Đuzepp Khaddiem in Birkirkara, where after a few years he was appointed chaplain. After this work he was sent to participate in the Secretariat (today the Vicarage) of the Liturgy and in 2015 Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna chose him diocesan master of ceremonies. Over the years he has worked on liturgical texts and also takes part in the revision and translation into Maltese of the Roman Missal. He helps in the Parish of Stella Maris, in Tas-Sliema.
